TOWN OF TRACY’S LEAD SERVICE LINE INVENTORY PROJECT

Learn about the Town of Tracy’s lead service line inventory technical assistance program and ensure your drinking water is safe

The Town of Tracy, Montana (Town), in partnership with Water & Environmental Technologies (WET), is conducting a lead service line (LSL) inventory. Part of the inventory is to determine the material of the customer-owned portion of the water service line (the water line that is going into your home). You can help the county by performing a visual lead test of your home’s water service line and letting us know the results using the form below.

Using the LSL chart, please complete the water service line test and fill out the form below. If you need any assistance with the test, please feel free to contact WET.

If a response in not received, WET/the Town will proceed with site visits to collect the necessary data by the required deadline.

People can be exposed to lead in drinking water through lead pipes. There is no safe level of lead in drinking water and the amount of lead service lines in Montana is not fully known.

LSL TEST

Find the water shut-off valve in your basement. Look at the pipe that comes through the outside wall of your home and connects to your home’s shutoff valve.

If the pipe is painted, use sandpaper to expose the metal. Carefully scratch the metal pipe (like you would a lottery ticket) with a key or a coin.

To determine if the pipe is lead or steel, get a strong refrigerator magnet. Place the magnet on the pipe. If a magnet sticks, it is a steel pipe.
