SUBSTATION EXPANSION PROJECT

Dillon, Montana Area

This Montana Substation, located southwest of Dillon, is owned and operated by an Idaho utility company.  Land was acquired for an expansion south of the existing platform to provide the area needed to upgrade electrical capacity and reliability. The project included 6.99 acres of excavation and grading for additional substation components. WET provided a variety of services for this site.

WET prepared, submitted, and secured a Montana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MPDES) Notice of Intent (NOI) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), a Beaverhead Conservation District (CD) 310 permit, a Beaverhead County Weed Management Plan, a MT Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) 318 permit, and a U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Section 404 Permit.

As a result of the unseasonably warm weather and ice jamming in the main channel of a nearby creek, the area where the channel was being reconstructed was flooded. WET, on behalf of the utility, worked with the USACE to address a request for a restoration plan.  The approved work plan addressed channel/wetland restoration, specifically a re-vegetation plan, completion timeframes, and monitoring details. The results were documented in a report submitted to the client and the USACE.

WET personnel conducted bi-weekly then monthly site stormwater inspections according to DEQ requirements, regularly reported on inspections to the utility’s staff, and maintained an Audit Ready Binder of all necessary documents/reports.
