A substation expansion project was completed north of Great Falls, Montana. To facilitate utility expansion the footprint of the existing substation pad needed to be expanded to the north. The total project area is 35.0 acres and initially the area of construction related disturbance was 6.2 acres. WET provided a variety of services for this site.
WET prepared, submitted, and secured a Floodplain Permit, since the official 100-year floodplain boundaries intersected the project area.
WET prepared, submitted, and secured a Montana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MPDES) Notice of Intent (NOI) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). Shortly after the storm water permit was issued, the utility’s disturbance increased by 2.5 acres so a Modification of the MDPES permit was prepared and secured. Since the beginning of the project WET has conducted site inspections, documented and reported findings, and completed appropriate SWPPP updates on a bi-weekly basis as required for compliance with the Construction Storm Water Permit. WET assisted the utility with compliance issues and BMP maintenance and design throughout the project. WET provided oversight for needed erosion control/maintenance site work to ensure BMPs were effective.
