THE PARROT WASTE REMOVAL PROJECT BORROW AREA

The Parrot Borrow Area is a permitted opencut permit in Silver Bow County, Montana. The permit was issued by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and allows for the mining of clay and soil from the area. The Parrot Borrow area’s material was used to create an Evapotranspiration (ET) cover of the reclaimed Parrot Smelter tailings area in Butte, MT. Development of the permit application included the following components:
- Legal survey of the proposed area
- Existing site soil/material classification
- Cut and fill estimates
- Final Reclamation renderings
- Landowner consultation/contracts
- Cultural Resource Evaluation
- Stormwater permitting
The Parrot Borrow Area was an important source of clay and soil for the final reclamation of the Parrot Smelter Tailings. The DEQ issued permit ensures that the mining is done in an environmentally responsible manner.
