HOWARD AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS

Butte, Montana

The Howard Avenue Improvements Project—a collaboration between Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) and Butte-Silver Bow (BSB)—is revitalizing the stretch of Howard Avenue between Elizabeth Warren Avenue and White Boulevard. Though modest in size, this stretch of roadway is a heavily traveled part of the community, and the improvements aim to enhance safety, accessibility, and day-to-day usability for everyone who travels it.

The project officially kicked off in September 2024, marked by a collaborative planning meeting between WET and BSB. From there, WET developed detailed design plans that evaluated the existing road subbase, integrated sidewalk along the entire right of way, and aligned with BSB Road Standards—all guided by the Montana Public Works Standard Specifications to create a thorough and precise project manual.

In early 2025, the project progressed with the release of a transparent bid package, inviting competitive proposals and establishing a fair process for selecting a contractor. By March, Jeffery Contracting of Butte, Montana, was awarded the contract.

Construction began in late spring 2025, bringing the design vision to life. WET and BSB closely supervised the work—managing submittals, conducting site visits, and ensuring every detail followed the approved specifications. Regular check-ins and quality reviews helped keep the project on schedule.

Now, upon completion, the Howard Avenue Improvements Project demonstrated thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to enhancing our local infrastructure. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of WET, BSB, and Jeffery Contracting, this previously overlooked stretch of roadway has become a smoother route for the Butte community.
